Slemani — The General Directorate of Slemani Electricity announced that more than 5 megawatts of solar-generated electricity have been added to the power grid in just 35 days, highlighting the growing adoption of renewable energy across the governorate.
According to a statement issued by the directorate, the installation of solar energy systems continues to increase steadily throughout Slemani. Statistics from the Renewable Energy Section of the Technical Department showed that total electricity production from solar power exceeded 97 megawatts as of June 14, 2026.
The directorate said that 4,061 consumers had installed solar energy systems and registered with the Renewable Energy Section by June 14, with a combined production capacity of 96.140 megawatts. By comparison, on May 6, the number of registered subscribers stood at 3,756, generating a total of 91.623 megawatts.
The figures indicate that more than 5 megawatts of additional solar power capacity was brought online over the 35-day period, alongside an increase of 305 registered subscribers.
Residential users make up the largest share of solar energy adopters in Slemani, with 3,335 subscribers. The commercial sector accounts for 579 subscribers, while 106 agricultural, 15 industrial, and seven government subscribers have also installed solar power systems.
The General Directorate of Slemani Electricity said the continued growth of solar energy reflects increasing public demand for clean and sustainable electricity sources, helping reduce reliance on the national grid while supporting the region’s broader renewable energy goals.
Solar power systems have become increasingly popular among households and businesses in Slemani and across the Kurdistan Region as an environmentally friendly and cost-effective source of electricity.
