SLEMANI — A damaged section of the second Dukan–Slemani water pipeline was repaired early Monday morning, with water supply to Slemani and several surrounding areas resuming later in the day, local authorities said.
Bakhtiar Tahir, Director of Slemani Water, said that the damaged pipe was repaired at around 3:00 a.m. following a rupture on the main water line.
He said water reached Slemani city in the afternoon, with distribution beginning in several areas of the Raparin neighborhood. Water reservoirs are also being refilled in areas experiencing shortages, he added.
Tahir said water would be supplied to all neighborhoods according to the distribution schedule set by the water distribution operators.
The director also said new water pumps have been installed as part of efforts to improve the supply system. Only final safety checks of the pumps’ electrical system remain before they can become operational.
Once the safety checks are completed and the pumps are put into service, authorities expect the measure to contribute to stabilizing and normalizing water distribution.
The pipeline was damaged on Sunday during work carried out by a company, disrupting water supplies in parts of the area.
Following the repair, water has reached Slemani, Bazian, Takya, Chamchamal and Shorish, according to the Sulaymaniyah Water Directorate.
