SLEMANI — Work is underway on three new roads connecting the Malik Mahmud Ring Road to Slemani’s 100-Meter Street project, as authorities step up efforts to improve traffic flow and complete the major road project.
Hemen Hussein, the supervising engineer for the 100-Meter Street project, said that construction has begun on the three connecting roads. He said coordination is ongoing with the relevant authorities to address any issues that arise during implementation, adding that work is currently progressing well.
Hussein said authorities had requested funding for eight connecting roads to link different parts of the city with the 100-Meter Street. However, approval has so far been granted for only three of the proposed roads.
He said completing the three approved roads would significantly ease traffic congestion and improve access for residents.
Work on the wider 100-Meter Street project is also continuing, with efforts being intensified to complete the project and open it for public use as soon as possible.
Hussein said the project is expected to be completed on schedule provided that no budgetary obstacles emerge.
A section of the 100-Meter Street was previously opened to traffic, allowing drivers and residents to use part of the newly constructed road.
The Slemani Municipality had earlier sought approval for eight connecting roads as part of the broader project. However, the Kurdistan Regional Government Council of Ministers approved three of them, with funding allocated from the Sulaymaniyah governorate’s budget.
The project is part of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s broader infrastructure and public-service initiatives under its Ninth Cabinet, which has identified the development of roads and other public infrastructure among its priorities. The government has said such projects are intended to improve public services and living conditions across the Kurdistan Region.
