Slemani The Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) said the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan have responded positively to an initiative launched by KIU Secretary-General Salahaddin Bahaddin, with a summit meeting expected to take place in the coming days to address the Region’s political impasse.

On Thursday, KIU spokesperson Salahaddin Babakir announced on Facebook that a summit meeting will be held between the KDP, the PUK, and political parties represented in the Kurdistan Parliament.

According to Babakir, the meeting is intended to end the current political deadlock and establish mechanisms for reactivating the Kurdistan Parliament and forming the next Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet.

Speaking to Rudaw Media Network, Mohammed Hawdiyani confirmed that the summit will go ahead and said both Masoud Barzani and Bafel Talabani are expected to participate.

The planned gathering follows an initiative launched by Salahaddin Bahaddin in recent weeks aimed at bringing together the KDP, the PUK, and other parliamentary parties in an effort to resolve the prolonged political stalemate in the Kurdistan Region.

The initiative comes as political parties continue negotiations over the formation of a new government and the reactivation of parliament following months of political deadlock.
