Slemani — Security forces from the General Directorate of Counter-Terrorism (CTG) in Slemani, in coordination with Iraq’s Counter-Terrorism Service, have arrested a suspected ISIS member during a joint operation in the Tuz Khurmatu district of Saladin Governorate, officials announced.
According to a statement issued by the CTG, the operation was carried out following extensive intelligence gathering, surveillance, and investigative efforts. The suspect was apprehended based on an arrest warrant issued by a competent investigative judge.
Counter-terrorism authorities described the detainee as a wanted individual with a history of involvement in insurgent and terrorist activities. Officials said he had been an active member of the ISIS organization and operated within the group’s so-called “Wilayat al-Anbar” structure.
The arrest was conducted as part of ongoing coordination between Kurdistan Region and Iraqi security forces aimed at pursuing suspected militants and preventing the resurgence of extremist activities.
Following his detention, the suspect was transferred to the relevant judicial authorities to face legal proceedings in accordance with Iraqi law.
Security officials have not released the identity of the detainee or provided additional details regarding the specific allegations against him.
The operation highlights continued cooperation between security institutions in the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi federal government in counter-terrorism efforts across disputed and neighboring areas.
